EAST MEDITERRANEAN OLIVE OIL COMPANY (EMOC), LTD.
IDLEB, SYRIA

Based on the socio-economic importance of the production of olive and olive oil in Syria (where the total olive plantations reached up to 500 000 hectares and the number of trees up to more than 70 million, with an annual production of 165 000 tons and having the best olive varieties worldwide) there came the initiative to establish a large investment company in Syria, with the union of the biggest olive oil producers and manufacturers in Spain (Aceite del Sur) and The Ben Laden Group, KSA, to extract, purify, pack and market olive oil both domestically and internationally; also, to refine, pack and market vegetable oils.

LOCATION OF THE COMPANY:
The Company was built in the province of Idleb, on a piece of land 50 000 sq. m, on the road connecting Idleb and Bab el-Hawa, in the heart of the olive orchards in northern Syria, which comprises 65% of the olive trees in Syria. The location is close to the international auto-strides, the railroad and the Syrian sea ports, which renders transportation fast to the domestic and international consumer markets.

PRODUCTIVITY:
The East Mediterranean Olive Oil Company (EMOC), LTD., is the leader in the east Mediterranean region in terms of its capital, productivity and use of new technology in the field of extracting, refining and filtering of olive oil; its productivity is 23 500 tons of olive and vegetable oils, distributed as follows:

• 2 500 tons of filtered olive oil, filled in glass, plastic and metal containers after extracting 10 000 tons of olive.
• 8 000 tons of refined olive oil.
• 13 000 tons of refined vegetable oils.

THE GOALS OF THE COMPANY:
The Company aims at producing high quality olive oil, distinguished by its excellent nutritious and health-related properties; also, the company develops and enhances the olive oil industry in Syria and ameliorates the workers’ level of experience in this field by applying the following:

1. Purchasing large amounts of olive and olive oil from the local markets and doing the necessary processes of extracting, filtering, refining, packing and storing, using the state-of-the-art available in technology to preserve high quality.
2. Purchasing vegetable oils for refining, purifying and bottling.
3. Marketing the production both domestically and inter-nationally with competitive prices in the following forms:
   • Bulk olive oil in flexi-tanks.
   • Barrels of 200 kg.
   • Metal containers (Tins).
   • Glass containers.
   • Plastic (PET) containers.

IMPORTANT QUALIFICATIONS OF THE COMPANY:

• The first company in Syria encompassing all stages of olive oil industry: Press, filtering, refining, fill-in (packaging) and marketing.
• The first company in terms of storage capacity and productivity in general.
• The first company to use the nature-friendly technology of the two-stage centrifuge method in olive pressing.
